A Basic Bible study 8-parts.
Begins January 11th, 2024.
Meets 4:30pm Thursdays
at Rock of Ages Lutheran Church 204 W. Airport Rd. Payson, Arizona.
John 20:26-28 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” 28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
What does Thomas now believe? How does that differ from what many today believe?
WELCOME!!!
Welcome to this class on the basic doctrines (teachings) of the Bible. You may be curious for any one of several reasons.
YOU MAY BE:
- A member of Rock of Ages Lutheran looking for a refresher course in what you and your church confesses and teaches
- a member of another “brand” of the Christian Church and are curious about what Lutheran Christians teach.
- simply an “inquirer” – never had a course in Bible teaching, and you what to find out for yourself what Christianity is all about and what the Bible says.
- here for another reason
Whatever your reason is, we wish you a warm welcome and pray that your participation in this class will be a rich blessing to you.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
Expect a STUDY of the basics of the Christian faith — what the Bible says about God, you, eternity, and your life here and now. Our source book will be the Bible; we will search it for the answers to our questions. YOU CAN EXPECT that your questions will be taken seriously and answered honestly and to the best ability of the teacher.
WHAT WILL BE EXPECTED OF YOU?
You are under no obligation whatsoever. We hope you will make every effort to come regularly. (Each lesson builds on the previous one) We also hope you will feel comfortable enough to actively participate with your questions, answers, and discussion. There will be some suggested (not mandatory) homework with most lessons.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN WE’RE DONE?
Here again, there is no obligation. If at the end of the course you feel you are in agreement with what has been taught and wish to join our congregation, we would gladly welcome you. If you don’t feel ready for that or if you don’t find yourself in agreement with the things you’ve heard, you are under no obligation at all. IN ANY CASE, we acknowledge that when God’s Word is studied – he blesses those who study it, so we know our efforts here will NOT be a waste of time!
WHAT IS OUR ULTIMATE PURPOSE?
- To UNDERSTAND the amazing grace of God.
- To KNOW what he has done for all of us in his Son.
- To REJOICE in the certainty that our sins are forgiven and heaven is ours through Jesus.
- To GROW in our love for God and our motivation to live for him.
- To POSSESS eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.
- To be able to say with joy, now and forever, “My LORD and my God!”
